Brutally Cold... in July!

I shouldn't complain since my health does so poorly in warmer environments but the weather lately has been absolutely ridiculous! I was so cold through the night last night that I could not sleep. My bones and joints ached so badly that sleeping was impossible... I was shivering... and yet, I was fully clothed and we had a blanket covering us!  It is mid-July... we should be complaining about the heat! Actually, this is the only month when it is normal to have temperatures approaching triple digits or in triple digits. By late August, the weather is usually cool enough that you can't help but be reminded that snow will be falling soon.  So, what I'm saying is that mid-July is the peak of our summer as far as temperature goes... we usually have air conditioners in as many windows as possible to try to keep cool... and that peak usually only lasts for about two weeks. Instead, lately, I've wanted to fire up that furnace again. This morning I was expecting to awake t

Overwhelming Amount of Video

Over the past few nights, I've been collecting all the video clips I shot while we were at the lake house by putting them in a single folder on my desktop computer. After seeing the number of video clips in this folder, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the amount of video I have... Apparently, I shot 10.4 gb's of high definition video... comprised of 60 video clips... with a total running time of almost 90 minutes. That is a lot of video!   (In addition to the 2000 or so photos I shot!) Although I shot most of this video myself, Sheila shot a few minutes of these video clips and Sheila's brother, Doug, also contributed a few video clips so I didn't actually shoot 90 minutes of video all by myself. My plan is to cut and splice all these clips into one cohesive video that is no longer than 8-10 minutes. I honestly have no clue how I am going to do that but I need to try.  I actually had some ideas in my head as well as on paper before we even arrived at the lak

Dessert, part II

Image
Here is part two about last night's dessert with a series of photos of Lukey...   "Hmmm... not bad..." "Ooooo... that's cold on the teeth..." "Ut - ohh..." "Brain-freeze!" "Hey Gee... ...what... did you... put... in this dessert... anyway?"  Before anyone thinks we may have spiked the dessert, we didn't... I simply caught Lukey in mid-blink...  It does look like he is a bit loopy though! As always, it was a fun night with the grandchildren!

Dessert

The kids came over for dinner last night... and they thought the name of our dinner was a bit amusing... shish-ka-bob . Of course, any name with "Bob" in it is hilarious to Lukey! Since learning the word "buoy" at the lake and seeing plenty of buoys, he's been chanting "bob-bob-buoy". (Howard Stern would find this amusing!) After dinner, the kids had a little dessert and I shot some photos. For this post, here is a series of photos of Kenzie... (Not to worry... photos of Lukey will follow in the next blog post.) "I'm not too sure about this gooey stuff..." "...I guess this isn't too bad..." "Hey, Gee... I'm a'tellin ya... it needs some M&M's..." "Now we're talking..." a little of this one... a little of that one... "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... soooo goooood..."

Some Down Time...

It is a beautiful and cool morning which is ideal for my health. I quickly ventured outside to take advantage of the cooler weather to tackle mowing the lawn.  I managed to get most of the weed-whacking accomplished before feeling a bit weak... I came inside to get a drink and see what happens with this weakness.  Before long, I felt famished... so I made some food... had more to drink... I feel a bit better but I still don't feel "right". I'm still struggling with breathing problems... the usual vision issues... the usual spinal pain... but, this weakness thing is a serious sign of impending anaphylaxis... again.  Common sense is telling me I need to take some emergency medications... head to the couch... and call it a day. So... 10am... and my day is done.  Maybe I'll feel a bit better later...

Saturday's Long Awaited Goodbyes

Image
As I mentioned in a previous blog post, this past Saturday was a very busy day for us. And, as I promised in that blog post, here are some photos of earlier in the day. Adam had been home on leave for about a month. His timing was pretty good because that enabled him to spend as much time at the lake house as he desired. He enjoys sailing so he used the sailboat quite a bit. It was also nice to spend some time with Adam at the lake again since we all thought last year would be his last year with us at the lake house.  About halfway through his leave, I know he was getting a bit antsy... counting down the days... wanting to "get out of Dodge"... looking forward to his next assignment and his impending move overseas. I vividly remember those days and those very feelings. You get to a point when you know it is time to move forward... no more sitting stagnant and you are weary and bored with visiting the past. Don't get me wrong, it is always nice visiting the pa

Independence Day Party

Image
We had a very busy Saturday... first, we went to lunch for a little 'going-away' meal with Adam... then we headed to the airport to say goodbye to Adam (I'll write about this another time and add some photos)... then we went to a really nice Independence Day party at Tom and Karen's house. By the time we were heading to the party, I was exhausted and my health was teetering on being quite lousy. My health has been bordering on poor since a little incident at the lake that simply took far too much out of me and I'm still trying to recover. Fortunately, I was loaded up on extra medications throughout the time at the lake house and even more so once my health deteriorated so I am in much better shape than had I not pre-medicated.   When we arrived at Tom and Karen's on Saturday evening, I planted my exhausted mind and body in a chair and stayed there. Even socializing required more energy than I had that night.  Sheila and I just sat and enjoyed the company
