A Good Review, A Bad Review

Earlier in the week, Sheila and I went shopping for bras that are appropriate for radiation treatment and breast cancer in general. We had already done this same shopping at Kohl's when Sheila was first diagnosed but she quickly found that her choice in bras was not ideal for her current situation in Radiation Treatment. We decided to buy more appropriate bras so we headed back to Kohl's since that store is right near the hospital.

The woman at the Customer Service counter talked Sheila into returning the bras she had originally bought and then called for a specific sales associate. When this sales associate arrived at the Customer Service counter, we informed her of Sheila's dilemma, and then the sales associate quickly and brightly explained that she, too, was a breast cancer patient and she knew exactly what Sheila needed.

We then followed the sales associate as she collected a few options for Sheila. As Sheila sat in the dressing room, the sales associate retrieved a few other options and more appropriate sizes.

We both felt it would be a good idea to write about this personalized service at Kohl's. Truth be told, I'm not much of a fan of the quality of many of their products but the customer service was comparable to Nordstom's and definitely worth noting on this day.

We'll definitely be returning to Kohl's in the future.

Another visit to another nearby establishment was not nearly as pleasant...

As would be expected, Sheila and I are doing a lot of eating out now that we're at the hospital every single weekday. One evening, after radiation treatment, we were looking for a different restaurant for dinner. We've been eating often at The Longhorn and, while it is pretty good and we always enjoy the food and service, we're getting tired of the same old stuff.

Nearby is a Texas Roadhouse but we very rarely go there because we've never had a pleasant experience at this particular restaurant. To be fair, we've had good meals at other Texas Roadhouse restaurants in other states but never here at home. We couldn't think of any other place to go on this particular night and this restaurant is on our way home so we decided to give them another shot. Oh yeah... we were famished so we figured we'd be happy with almost any food... what could go wrong? Right?

Wrong. Absolutely wrong. The food was bordering on inedible. The service wasn't miserable but it was quite slow. The biggest problem was that two starving people found the food bordering on inedible.

We each ordered a half rack of ribs... other than being slathered in barbeque sauce, the ribs were quite dry. They were so overcooked that there was no way to pick up a rib and eat it with your hands because they just completely fell apart... each and every one of them... just a mess on the plate that needed to be eaten with a fork. And they were sooooo dry.

As bad as it is to get two platefuls of dry ribs, we both found the barbeque sauce to be terrible. It almost seemed as though they forgot to shake the bottle of sauce before slathering the ribs with sauce... sort of... it was just bad. It sort of tasted like straight bad whiskey was poured over the ribs.

Sheila's corn was a steaming pile of goo... dark, shapeless, tasteless goo. I tasted it and it was beyond "bad". It was somewhere between a bowl of nice crisp buttered corn and a bowl of burnt corn chowder. Ugggg.

Sheila's "seasoned rice" was absolutely miserable. It was as dry as the Sahara and tasted like a hairy armpit (don't ask how I know about a hairy armpit). All that was eaten out of that nastiness was a partial forkful.

My "fresh vegetables" were about as far from fresh as you could get. The broccoli was so over-boiled that it had a bitter burnt taste... it also was a pile of goo. The carrots were tasteless mush. This was quite disgusting as well and it should never have been named "fresh vegetables". Who do they think they are kidding?

The rolls were pretty good and that is worth noting but the cinnamon butter was disgusting, as always. The rolls had a very prominent taste which we both liked but this flavor clashed with the flavor of the horrendous cinnamon butter. Cinnamon butter?  What the hell? I've lived in Texas and was never served cinnamon butter anywhere so what does this have to do with Texas? A sweet butter would make perfect sense but this is not a sweet butter... it is just a lot of ground cinnamon in a light, whipped butter. It isn't even a nice smooth rich butter... it isn't sweet... it is like a mouthful of dry cinnamon in fake whipped cream sprayed out of a can. Nasty.

I will admit that the french fries were pretty good. Although, one would think that anything would have tasted good next to the rest of the food on our table.

The peanuts, however, were good. This bucket of peanuts became the bulk of my dinner.

The service... was a bit annoying. It was slow. Trying to get our bill was like an agonizing torture test as we had to continue looking at the nasty food on our table. Then, after finally getting our bill, it took even longer to get my credit card back into my possession.

I honestly have no idea what people see in this place. I do not see the appeal whatsoever and we won't ever be going back there.

POST EDIT:  I forgot to mention that we were both sick to our stomachs for the rest of the night and the following morning. That was perhaps the worst meal we've had in a few years!
