Fuji Instax Portable Printer

A new photography product arrived on my doorstep the other day.  I was eager to test it and play with it for a bit.  I have to say that my initial testing was rather painless, quite easy and fun! Let me point out that many of the photographic prints hanging in our house are actual lab processed prints developed in chemicals the same way that prints were produced from film back when I was a child decades ago.  I learned photography when I was a child   shooting film  and I processed my own photos in a darkroom...  well, sometimes and I sometimes sent them out for processing and printing.  I learned photography using cameras with no automatic focus, no automatic exposure, no automatic prints and I knew my way around a darkroom as well as how to effectively handle an all-manual camera.  In my opinion, these types of darkroom lab prints are far superior to modern inkjet prints.  Truth be told, I feel that typical home photo "printers" are a rather poor medium for showcasing

Proof Book

Image
A couple of times each year, I have a proof book of some of my photos printed. I just had another one of these proof books printed last week and received it the other day. I'm always amazed at the quality of my photography when I view the photos in print. Well... I need to put one condition on that... When I have my photographs printed professionally, I'm always amazed at the quality.   I've definitely had terrible print jobs in the past from many of the "discount" printers...  ie, WalMart, Snapfish, and perhaps the worst of the worst today, Shutterfly. You definitely get what you pay for in prints. There is a reason why these low cost prints cost so little...  crappy ink, cheap paper, low quality printers, and probably poorly paid employees who don't really know anything about color, calibration, printing standards and print qualities. To make this even worse, many of these 'low cost' printers contract out other low cost printers around the cou

Prints of Lunar Eclipse

Image
I sent my two compositions of this week's lunar eclipse to the printer this evening.  I have all my prints done professionally so when I say I sent images to a printer, I am referring to a professional shop and not my own printer connected to my computer. For the final version of the prints, I added text on each. I wanted to make it easy to figure out the date, time and location of this event without having to go digging into the EXIF info (file properties). I wanted this info to be visible on the print itself. Although I feel text on photos adds a distraction, having this added information works in this situation. I'm looking forward to getting the high quality, Fuji Pearl Paper prints (Fuji Crystal Archive Digital Pearl Paper is glossy surface, silver halide color paper with a unique pearl-like, silvery iridescent appearance. The embedded pearl-like crystals give a high gloss effect reflectance) ... I order prints printed on this paper regularly and I have to say that t
