An Afternoon in Burlington

Image
W hile Lukey and Kenzie were visiting with us, we headed up to Burlington for an afternoon on the waterfront in the sun.  Our plan was to walk the waterfront from the Boathouse all the way up to North Beach and then back again.  It was a really beautiful day for this sort of walk but, unfortunately, my health was rather poor this particular day and by the time we reached the short distance to the Coast Guard Station, we had to turn around and find something else to do.  I was weak and generally feeling quite lousy.  We decided to head up to Church Street to have lunch instead. On the beginning of our walk, we walked up to Battery Park.  There is a long straight path to Battery Park that is lined with trees forming a nice canopy over the walkway.  When I first decided to start doing some infrared photography, I had this particular location in mind for a photo.  I wanted to see this tree-lined walkway and canopy in high contrast and with bright white leaves on the trees.  I like how thes

Lukey and Kenzie at ECHO

When we spent the day at Echo science and nature museum earlier in the week with little Miss Ellie, I naturally was reminded of our last visit to this museum.  Back in the summer of 2021, we brought Lukey and Kenzie there.  I don't think I ever shared any photos from that day so I guess sharing them late is better than not sharing them at all so here are a few from that day in 2021. If I remember correctly, we brought Lukey and Kenzie up to the Burlington waterfront two or three days in a row that summer.   The kids were able to do a local newscast in front of a green screen.  They had a few choices of backgrounds for this newscast.  We were able to email the videos they created to ourselves but the video quality was exceptionally poor.  If I remember correctly, the sound quality was so poor that it was mostly just noise.  The kids had fun creating their own news reports though... The day before we went to this museum with Lukey and Kenzie, we went on a cruise on the Spirit of Etha

Some Bloodwork This Morning

Image
A s I mentioned in a previous blog entry, I had another appointment with my oncologist the other day.  This morning we took a trip up to the hospital to run some tests. The other day, my oncologist and I discussed my current health, obviously, as well as some new treatments that have very recently been FDA approved for my rare illness.  These are the first two approved treatments specifically for my rare illness.  I spent some time over the past two days researching these treatments and discussing them with Sheila. First, let me start by saying that I'm fairly confident that my health is not  at a point where I think either of these drugs should be necessary.  My oncologist is simply trying to help improve my daily life.  She also wants to ensure that we aren't putting my health on the back burner instead of quickly jumping on treating something that is treatable but could quickly become life-threatening if left untreated.   One of the newly approved drugs to treat my rare illn

Another Cruise on Lake Champlain

Image
While Adam and Joi were visiting us the week before the holiday weekend, we headed up to Burlington for a very nice cruise on Lake Champlain.   We do one cruise every summer and had already done one cruise back in June with Lukey and Kenzie but this sightseeing cruise is always a nice time so doing a second cruise this summer received no objections from either one of us.   Actually, we jumped at the chance to do a cruise with Adam and Joi.   Adam hasn't been here for a visit in quite a few years and he is now married to Joi so it was nice to see both of them again.  We met Joi during our cross-country trip on Amtrak a few years ago.  That was a great trip and we enjoyed our time with the two of them while getting to know Joi a little better.  Now they were visiting Vermont...  just before a holiday weekend...  at the peak of foliage season...  which made for a very busy tourist season in our neck of the woods.  Every place we visited was very crowded with tourists.   Since it was a
