A Short Visit

Image
We again headed toward the airport the other day to greet Adam as he arrived from his last assignment. He is on his way to his new assignment and will be staying with us for a short while before continuing on to his new duty station.  It was a big 4th of July Parade day in all the towns surrounding Burlington so we were a little late getting to the airport which meant we didn't have time to visit the tower to watch Adam's plane arrive from up there... Nan and Pop arrived at about the same time as we did but parked at the opposite end of the parking garage... Adam arrived only a few minutes after our own arrival... Liza and the kids arrived shortly after Adam's arrival and we found them on our way to the luggage carousel... Kenzie surprised us by making a sneaky and very determined, direct beeline toward Uncle Adam and jumped up into his arms... As usual, we headed out to a nearby restaurant for a nice lunch together... A Quick Visit

Image
Liza and the grandkids came to visit Gee yesterday. It was definitely a visit that Gee needed! It was a short but sweet visit. Although short, they managed to squeeze in a few hands of Uno, playing with some trains, opening a box full of new school clothes, and Kenzie got to see her flowergirl dress for mommy's fast-approaching wedding.  We have a day set aside for the grandkids this week... no medical appointments... just fun. If the weather cooperates (a rarity this summer) then we will take the kids on a day cruise. If not, then we'll do some fun indoor activities instead. We're looking forward to it!

A Visit to Dawn

Image
This past weekend, we visited the cemetery to visit Dawn. When we arrived at the cemetery, it was a beautiful Saturday morning (which later turned to some violent thunderstorms)... it was sunny, warm, blue skies with some fluffy cumulus clouds.  Dawn has a fairly new bench at her grave which we had not seen yet, however, Sheila had promised Dawn that she would take a seat on this bench and view the distant mountains surrounding the cemetery. We finally had an opportunity to do this on Saturday morning. Although we see signs of Dawn around us fairly often, Sheila was happy to fulfill this promise and happy to say hello to Dawn at her resting place. A couple of plots away, is the grave of a Chief Master Sergeant I met shortly after arriving at the air defense unit here in Vermont way back in 1995. He instantly reminded me of many of the non-commissioned officers I had worked with through the years. He was, perhaps, the first person I respected at my new unit. When we first visit

A Room for Adam's Visit

Image
Adam will be arriving for a relatively short visit from somewhere on the opposite side of our planet in the next few days so it has been a very busy couple of weeks around the house.  As the regular readers of this blog already know, we moved our master bedroom to Adam's old bedroom when he left for the Air Force. I tore that bedroom apart... aired it out for months... and rebuilt it completely to include a rebuilt closet, rebuilt shelving and desk, new flooring and a new wood plank ceiling. This bedroom has been exceptionally comfortable for Sheila and me! This heavy laminate wood flooring has a vapor barrier already adhered to the bottom of each plank so we were able to install this directly on top of the subflooring. The original, long term plan was to turn our old bedroom into a room for me to keep all my models... mostly trains... and to create a space which would be better suited for building and working on models rather than our kitchen table. This project, however
