Our Two Year Old Refrigerator Absolutely Sucks

Image
A fter our experiences with this new Whirlpool refrigerator, I am left feeling that these refrigerators are typical US-made garbage and not a day goes by that I don't swear at this piece of junk appliance. Two years ago, we needed a new refrigerator as soon as possible since our previous refrigerator suddenly bit the dust and was unrepairable.  Unfortunately, finding anything during the pandemic that requires circuit boards for manufacture was exceptionally difficult.  Our best option at the time  (pretty much our  only  option)  was to purchase a Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator and I have regretted this purchase every single day since it arrived in our kitchen. We didn't want a Whirlpool refrigerator.  In fact, we didn't even care for this Whirlpool refrigerator nor was there a single feature that attracted us to this cheap product (cheap refers to quality, never is it an adjective for price) .  It is a rather generic refrigerator but at...

Bad Water Filter

I had previously written about getting a new refrigerator back in February or March when I was doing a bit of whining about needing to settle on choosing a new refrigerator and that we were not happy with what was available.  We also were not happy about the prices of what I feel is garbage.  Unfortunately, prices are up and options are severely limited due to the circuit board shortage.  On the positive side, we were able to replace our broken refrigerator within a few short days.   One of the things I complained about when I previous wrote was the terrible water and ice dispenser on this Whirlpool refrigerator.   In particular, we were not happy with the water pressure coming out of the water dispenser.  It was very much like a trickle.   The other night, Sheila was trying to dispense some water and an alarm sounded.  An icon lit up on the display indicating we needed to change the water filter.  I had already ordered replac...

Upgrading a Cheap Telescope

Image
I've mentioned in a previous blog entry that I've been working on getting some telescopes ready for nighttime viewing in the warmer weather. The grandkids are getting old enough to enjoy viewing the night sky so this gave me a good reason to play with some telescopes. I have a background in aerospace so this has always been an interest of mine but it is always nice to have another reason like grandkids. It makes it easier to justify the hobby. Naturally, it seems it has done nothing but rain (and snow) for all but one day since I assembled these telescopes in our living room a few weeks ago but this has given me time to decide what to do with one or two scopes that have been terribly frustrating to use. One of these telescopes in question was a Celestron   AstroMaster  114EQ reflector telescope. This telescope has been nothing but frustration since we bought it quite a few years ago. Nothing looked even halfway decent through this scope. I've collimated it (aligned the ...
