Fixed the Snowblower

A fter a week of exceptionally lousy health, I managed to have a fairly productive day today.   We went out-of-town last weekend and that took a lot out of me especially since we went out-of-town two weekends prior to that too.  Between the two weekends, my health had had enough and I spent all week in bed and on the couch.  I couldn't think straight...  I couldn't see clearly...  I had great difficulty breathing most of the time... I was often lightheaded...  my bones and joints were more painful than usual... I slept a lot ...  and I generally felt exceptionally lousy.   I was hoping things would be back to normal yesterday but I had significant problems shortly after getting up out of bed so I aborted my plans for the day.  This morning, however, I felt more "normal"...  my new normal, anyway...  so I jumped into setting up a new WiFi system through our house (which was supposed to be yesterday's project).   T...

Cooling Fan for Entertainment Cabinet

Image
W e've been having problems with our WiFi router overheating for well over a year.  The entertainment cabinet that I built into the side of our fireplace unit had no ventilation at all other than the shelves being open to the front of the unit.  Inside that cabinet, especially in the summer months, the temperature would probably get into the triple digits quite easily and far too often.  This consistently has caused wireless issues requiring numerous reboots and even occasional cool-down periods.   Consequently, I highly suspect that the wireless router is now damaged and I've known for quite a few months that we are on borrowed time for this rather vital piece of hardware.  I say it is vital because Sheila needs the internet for work.   Lately, we need to reboot far more often than ever before and our WiFi has been intermittent for many months.  I knew the solution was to purchase a new router system and to install an exhaust fan into the si...

Wireless Internet Problems

Image
For the past few weeks, we've been experiencing some internet issues, mostly with our wireless internet. However, there have been times when our wired internet was a pain in the butt as well.  For a little while, I was having difficulty deciding whether or not the source of our problems was due to a bad modem (Comcast's hardware) or a bad wireless router (our hardware). Most of our problems were related to dropped wireless so I was focused on our own router rather than Comcast's modem. There were times when we would lose all internet though. There were times when our FireTV wouldn't startup because it could not find internet and, unfortunately, we have our FireTV hardwired so I knew that particular problem wasn't due to a wireless problem but it still could be a problem with that wireless router since the wired connections are routed through there.  Even considering some of the wired internet problems we were experiencing, the source of our problems seemed to...

A New Comcast Xfinity Router

A couple of weeks ago, Comcast offered us an upgrade to our router for free. I knew our router was getting old and I knew that we occasionally have problems needing reboots and removing the battery (which is difficult to get at) so a free upgrade seemed like a 'no-brainer'. When we got our free upgrade to Xfinity a year or two ago, I thought it was odd that the Xfinity package didn't arrive with a new modem but everything seemed to work just fine so I forgot about having an older modem. Sheila ordered this free modem upgarde and the package arrived yesterday... in a massive box... I left it, unopened, on the living room floor until after my usual afternoon nap. When Sheila arrived home from work, I opened the box... this new Xfinity router was absolutely HUGE! It was larger than our BlueRay DVD player! This router was so deep, that it barely fit on our entertainment center shelves. I would need to lay it down flat and bend all the cords plugged into the back of it in...
