Thumb is Healing

Image
I 'm starting to do things around the house again.  Well...  still no woodworking but I'm doing more household chores. My thumb seems to be healing nicely and the pain has subsided a bit more.   What is interesting is that the thumb is healing in an upward direction, rebuilding what I had cut off.  That is really good news. It still hurts a bit especially if I use it or hit it against something (which happens a few times each day).  I've even started some physical therapy exercises very lightly to get it moving again and to build up some strength.  Typing is still a little difficult but I'm able to type far more quickly than a week ago. Writing has been difficult since I do that with my left hand.   Writing with my right hand has improved but I'm now able to hold a pen/pencil in an odd way with my left hand so I can write fairly well.  E ating has been difficult since I usually hold my fork with my left hand.  I'm still just as bad ...

Surgery Followup

Friday, we were back at the hospital again for a followup with the surgeon.  Sheila's recovery from her surgery a week prior to this appointment has been relatively uneventful for which we are both very thankful. I definitely want to point out that Sheila's surgeon has done an outstanding job on this partial mastectomy as well as the biopsy and in effectively managing a slightly different and perhaps slightly creative protocol to avoid Sheila's history of problems stemming from anesthesia. In previous surgeries, Sheila has had significant problems with anesthesia and this new surgeon and anesthesiologist really came through in finding a solution to Sheila's rather unique problems.  Additionally,  Sheila's incisions are healing nicely and she is getting more and more comfortable each day. In our appointment on Friday, the surgeon cleared Sheila to begin doing more physically demanding things again as she feels up to it. Naturally, this is good news.  ...

Saratoga's Congress Park

Image
A couple of weeks ago during Thanksgiving weekend, Sheila and I spent the bulk of the weekend in the Adirondack Mountains in Saratoga Springs with friends. The main purpose of our visit to Saratoga was to see the Canadian Pacific's Holiday Train but we had a little time to do a few other things as well. We had a really great time and, as usual, we left feeling as though we didn't have enough time there! Among doing all sorts of things in the few days we had in Saratoga, Sheila and I went for a walk through Congress Park one afternoon.  This particular park is home to war memorials, veteran memorials, multiple fresh water mineral springs known for healing and curative properties, an historical society museum (I'll write more about this museum in a future blog entry) , and a carousel. Although the calendar may disagree, it is pretty much wintertime here in the northeast so this wasn't exactly the best time to visit this park but we enjoyed ourselves enough to want ...
