Comparing Lenses of Different Formats

Image
W hen I shot these photos below capturing the view through the viewfinders of cameras of two different formats, my purpose was to see if I could capture better images through the viewfinders than I had shown in my previous blog entry.  So, in short, this was initially an exercise in trying to capture better photos shot through a small viewfinder.  After capturing these photos, I noticed something else that I wanted to point out. I should first explain that I had used my cellphone for these photos and it is difficult to hold the cellphone perfectly lined up with a clear view through the rather small viewfinders.  Then, when you touch the screen to capture the photo, the whole cellphone moves ever so slightly causing some motion blur.  It was tough keeping the cellphone lined up perfectly to capture the entire view through each viewfinder. I really can't understand why anyone would want to shoot photos with crappy cellphones and I am reminded of this every single time ...

Processed a Photo This Evening

Image
I slept away much of the day since I didn't sleep at all last night. Fortunately, my spinal pain has subsided a bit... down into the 4-5 range, at rest.  I'm about to head to bed but wanted to post a photo here first. I worked on processing this image this evening... selective dodging and burning... luminosity masking... selective sharpening... etc.  I shot this photo during a trip to New York City in 2013. The RAW image remained on one of my hard drives untouched. I hadn't even sorted it into one of my "best" folders as I do with the best images in most of my daily folders! When I was searching through the folder looking to pull out this image this evening, I saw a few others which might make some decent photos as well. For now, however, it will be only this one image to add to my collection of finished photographs. I love the contrast of this image... the sun rays... the clouds... the sun reflecting off the buildings in the center of the frame... and I esp...

Kodak Gardens

Image
I ended up getting sidetracked away from painting a bedroom this morning (Lukey would tell me I got "derailed"... his new word of the day) and, by the time I had a chance to get back on schedule, it was really too late to get anything significant accomplished before lunch. And, after lunch, I must nap or my health will crash. So, to kill some time, I grabbed a different camera than I grabbed a few days ago and, again, headed out to our wildflower gardens. It is the end of the season now so there isn't much to shoot out there. This was more of an exercise in using a different type of camera... This camera I chose today is my old digital SLR camera which sports a beautiful and unique Kodak sensor. I'm not a fan of Kodak in the digital age, in general (they really shot themselves in the foot and wasted away an historic and tremendous corporation) , but this imaging sensor is stunning. It is my oldest camera but it has one of my favorite imaging sensors. The clarit...
