Comcast Minor Issue Blossoms

This weekend has been rather uneventful.  My health was quite lousy for half the weekend (actually, it was quite miserable for half the weekend) so that affected my productivity, and it affected our fun!

We did manage to get a little bit of yardwork done today.  The weather was nice so it was really nice to be outside.

We had planned to meet Frank and Christine in town on Saturday but we had some Comcast modem problems that turned out to be more involved than anticipated.  Needless to say, we never made it into town.

We lost internet and telephone service on Friday evening and decided to call it in to see if perhaps it was a problem in the neighborhood or with our service.  Turns out it was a problem with our service.  The customer service rep worked with us for about a half hour trying to reset and reboot the modem so it would finally work again but it didn't work.  The rep said she would have someone come to swap out the modem for us.

On Saturday afternoon, Comcast arrived right on time at 2:30pm, so that was good (and rare for any type of service call!).  Unfortunately, although the modem problem was minor, there were much more serious problems with our cable lines and connections.  On the positive side, my wiring and junction boxes that I installed during our home renovations were just fine.  The problems were with all of the connections that Comcast installed two years ago.

The repairman started at the television and worked his way all the way out to the pole at the road...  one connection at a time.  He replaced the Comcast cable box when he realized it was not operating correctly.  Then he realized he was not getting enough of a signal for us to be using cable, telephone and internet all at once so that led to working his way back to the utility pole at the street fixing things as necessary.  He also installed a junction box on the exterior of the house which, apparently, should have been done when they installed cable two years ago.

When it was time to come back inside to check on the newly installed cable box, he realized that the cable box he installed had a bad HDMI port which would not carry sound.  That had to be disconnected and swapped out again.  This sounds easy and quick but it is time consuming since inventory must be scanned and the software must be updated.  So, it takes a bit of time.

The next cable box after that also had a bad HDMI port that would not carry any signal whatsoever so he swapped out the box again!  Fortunately, the third cable box was just fine.  And, fortunately for us, he had four cable boxes in his truck.

The next half hour was spent trying to get the cable box to update correctly.  The guy ended up doing almost three hours for work for what was just supposed to be a simple modem swap!  I have to say that he was really thorough and he did a great job.  And, he was in a good mood the whole time!  In the end, our cable service is much faster and I have the comfort of knowing that all the cable-related wiring and hardware I bought and installed is working perfectly.  And now, our Comcast service is working as it should.

So, a few positive things worth mentioning...   The service truck arrived on time.  The Comcast guy was in a good mood and very friendly.  And, although the service call was for a simple modem swap, all problems were addressed and fixed during this visit.  And, worth mentioning again is the fact that the guy was in a good mood even though the job turned out to be much bigger than anticipated.

As mentioned above, I also had some health problems this weekend.  As a result, I needed to take some 'emergency' medications which really knock me out.  That pretty much put an end to any thoughts of getting into town to meet friends this weekend.

Cinco de Mayo is on Thursday...   hopefully we can manage to get into town on that day to celebrate with friends!  Let us know if you would like to meet us!
