Nice Sunday with the Grandchildren

Sunday was a beautiful, sunny day which was a very nice and welcomed departure from weeks of solid rain and humidity.  The rain was taking its toll not only on our emotions but also on the house.  We ended up with water damage, rot, mold and septic problems (none of which has been fixed just yet, by the way).

Anyway, on this beautiful Sunday afternoon, the grandchildren visited after doing some swimming at the Waterbury Pool.  After playing out in the sun on the sailboat, we had some shish-ka-bob for dinner.  Of course, Liza and Sheila's parents were with us as well.  We try to arrange for a Sunday dinner at least once a month and, when all our schedules mesh, it is always a nice day.  This past Sunday was no exception.

The kids are growing far too fast.  They are now running around.  They are constantly talking to each other in their own language, seemingly understanding each other.  And, as always, I try to get some good photos of them whenever they visit.

Here is a small album of their latest visit on my Zenfolio Website - "Grandchildren July 14, 2013".

They just played and played on the sailboat...  swinging the tiller to turn the rudder...  pulling on ropes...   making the ratchet block click away...  sitting in the cockpit...  standing in the cockpit...  climbing all over...  I couldn't help but wonder how they would react if the sailboat was in the water rather than on a little dolly in the yard.  They are both drawn to the water so it didn't take any stretch of the imagination to picture them jumping off the boat and into the water, splashing away!  It should be interesting, though, to see their reactions to watching the sailboat do what it was meant to do...  and especially if they are on board for a ride.

It is always interesting and sometimes amusing to see something new capture their attention.  After they were playing on the boat for a long while, Mackenzie finally looked skyward and saw the huge sail towering over her head...  she squealed excitedly, pointing skyward at the tall colorful sail against the blue sky...  It was funny to see her get so excited when she first noticed the sail while Lukas just played away with the ropes in the cockpit.  Looking skyward is a good thing...  metaphorically as well as literally.  Being a sailor since I was a child growing up on Long Island as well as an Air Force airman in my adult life, I always look skyward when I first step from inside the house.  Looking up is a good thing...  it is nice seeing a very young child looking up and getting excited!

I hope you enjoy the photos!
