No, Not a Field Trip... but, An Adventure

We had the grandkids again this past Sunday while Liza dealt with last minute arrangements for her wedding this coming weekend. It's nice to be getting back into our normal routine!

The kids arrived at our house thinking we were going on some sort of "field trip". We explained that while field trips are a nice break from school that are related to school, we're not going on a field trip... we're going on a winter adventure!

Since Lukey arrived in only some sweat pants, a tee shirt and a lightweight fleece while it was snowing outside, I decided to tease them a bit by asking if Lukey thought he was coming to our house just to go to bed. He didn't have much of a response so I continued, saying that our adventure will take us to some snowy mountaintop... they immediately thought we were going to the lake house and that we were going to climb Owl's Head Mountain again... I asked Lukey why he wasn't dressed for our winter adventure but, again, he didn't have much of a response.

At this point, they both were a bit hesitant and guarded about climbing a mountain in the snow... which was good... I got them thinking. "Is Papa kidding again?"  "Do I have to climb a mountain while I'm dressed for bed?"

After having Lukey pick out some clothes to wear (we have plenty of clothes here at our house) and trying to arrange for some booster seats for our car since Liza ran off without dropping off the kids' seats with the kids, Nan and Pop arrived at the house to join us on our winter adventure. It wasn't until we started spelling where we were going that Kenzie figured it out... L... O... F... T... and Kenzie screamed, "The Christmas Loft!!!"

The weather was dark and snowy in and around Waterbury for the beginning of our adventure but the closer we got to Burlington, the lighter it was and the sky even had patches of blue in it. This was no surprise though because Waterbury is nestled between mountain ranges and clouds always form as air is pushed over the mountaintops into this valley aptly named Waterbury.

We eventually made it up to Shelburne and The Christmas Loft... and Nan and Pop pulled into the parking lot right behind us...

Whenever we visit here, the kids get to pick out one ornament to buy... there are rooms upon rooms of ornaments to make this choice extremely difficult...

Lukey seemed to be drawn to the nutcrackers this visit...

Kenzie surprised us a bit by telling us that she really wants Santa to bring her a toolbox full of tools this year... a toolbox just like this one...

Lukey found the trains...

The upside-down Christmas tree...

Kenzie wanted to see the upside-down Christmas tree right side up so Gee helped hold her in a headstand...

Kenzie has always been drawn to figurines but these larger Christmas manger figures got her all excited...

Afterward, we all headed to The Longhorn for a delicious lunch...

It was a really nice day with the kids and Nan and Pop! Everyone enjoyed themselves.

On to the next adventure...
