Our Landscaping and Gardens

Every year we expand and improve our landscaping and gardens and this Spring was no exception. Each year, things are a little bit different in our yard with different plants and slightly different gardens and we seem to add a little more each year as well.

I'm not at all into having little figures and figurines in our gardens and backyard, in general,  but we do have our frog, Dawn, perched on our front step to greet all visitors. This frog is named after Sheila's lifelong friend, Dawn. If you were fortunate enough to know Dawn, you'll understand why our frog is named Dawn...

We added cedar planters and window boxes this year and hope to add more to more windows in the future...

As always, our stone walls, stone paving, and timbers tend to expand and artistically spread as well. This stone walkway to our backyard and back door, lined by wildflowers and stones, is one of my favorite features (and required a lot of back-breaking work for someone with extensive spinal injuries)...

The wildflower gardens seem to be more colorful this year which has finally attracted some hummingbirds and, ironically, live frogs hopping around Dawn...

The windowboxes were a very nice addition this year and they filled out very nicely...

Unfortunately, it is now the time of year when vegetation begins to turn as Autumn approaches. We are seeing some red in the leaves around the house and the wildflowers are beginning to turn and some are even looking a bit sad...

I caught these two chatting with each other as I was searching for subjects to photograph... it is always good to capture some action... I suspect the flower was saying, "Hey...  I could really use a few drops of water...  it is scorching out here in the sun!"

For some reason, we ended up with a lot more deep purples, violets, and blues throughout our wildflower gardens this year... and we like it!

Little by little, we get a little bit more accomplished in and around the house. It becomes more "homey" each year. This year, the curb appeal of our home is looking very welcoming and flowery which has been very nice.

It's been a very good summer for flowers and black raspberries although I never did get any photos of all the black raspberries before Lukey and Kenzie devoured them like a school of piranhas on a juicy thick slab of meat... all that remains of our bountiful black raspberries are deep purple stains on tongues, fingers, faces, shirts,...
