A Weekend with Mackenzie

Thursday night, Sheila and I were relaxing at home and our Alexa Show started flashing light and sounding a notification sound...  I told Alexa to answer the call...  Miss Mackenzie was on the other end and had to ask us something.  Gee came into the room as Mackenzie asked if she could have a sleepover at our house.  Gee excitedly answered, "Of course you can have a sleepover with us!"

So, Kenzie has been with us this weekend.  Last night we had some meatballs, pasta and bread for dinner.  We watched a movie or two.  This morning I made my pastry-style French toast with a side of bacon and Gee sliced up some strawberries to add to the French toast.  It was delicious!

We have a big snowstorm headed our way and had some errands to run so we had planned to immediately head out after breakfast.  Mackenzie and I were ready before Gee so I shot a few photos of her...  here is one from that bunch...

One of these days, I need to do a longer modeling session with her.  She is getting old enough to enjoy that.  She loves getting dressed up and loves being a model for me so it would be a very easy gig for me.  Gee and I will have to put together a rack of clothes for Kenzie to wear for a nice photo session.  Some kids simply look good enough to make that sort of thing very easy for a photographer...  and that is Mackenzie.

It only took Gee another few minutes before she was ready to head out for errands.  We ventured out into the single digit temperatures and headed north toward Burlington.

Our first stop was Lowes to pick up a few things for a few little projects I need to accomplish.  Then we made our way to Michael's to buy Mackenzie a zippered portfolio for her artwork.  Unfortunately, they did not have what we are looking for so we just shopped around for a bit....

After spending some time shopping at Michael's, we headed to Marco's pizza for lunch.  I ordered some garlic knots (which excited Kenzie) and then I ordered "a medium pie...  half cheese, half pepperoni"...  Kenzie immediately jumped in telling me that she doesn't like "pie".  Gee and I laughed because we've explained this many times before...  when you walk into a New York-style pizza place, you order a pie...  it is called a pie...  not pizza.  Regardless of what it is called, Kenzie enjoyed her lunch and so did Gee and I!

After lunch, we headed to the University Mall to do some shopping...

Gee found a new bag for herself...  it was a "Buy the second bag for half off" so when we saw Kenzie get excited over a bag for herself, we bought that one too...

After the mall, we headed to Home Depot for a few more items for some projects around the house and then we needed to do some grocery shopping before the snow storm arrives.

The snow was already falling by mid-afternoon and everyone was now in a frenzy at the supermarket!  Everyone, surprisingly, was in an exceptionally good mood but most everyone was in such a hurry that they were actually pushing their carts at a jogging pace!  We filled our cart and then headed back out to the snow and frigid temperatures.

The moment we started the car, Alexa informed us that Uncle Adam was calling...  He and his girlfriend, Joi, finally have a place of their own and he wanted to give us a tour of their new apartment!  He has been living in California since August but wasn't able to find a place to live until today.  It looks like a nice place and it was nice to see it this afternoon even if while video chatting.

We've had a very nice weekend with Miss Mackenzie.  She had Gee are now snuggled up on the couch watching Shrek the Halls.  Perhaps I need to think about starting on dinner....
