A Night with a Grandchild

Our youngest grandchild spent some time with us this past weekend and we had a good time with him!

He is beginning to talk now.  Whenever he wanted something to eat, his word for that was "mom" which is very much in line with what my first psychology professor had taught me many decades ago...  mom = refrigerator.  When he wanted another Graham cracker, "mom"...  when he wanted more Chex mix, "mom"...  Although he is still not talking much, he had no problems calling out my name but, then again, "papa" is a pretty simple word to repeat for a toddler.

On and off for very short periods of time, he played with some cars, trucks, airplanes and some typical toddler developmental toys.  We had pizza and then he had some bathtime with a few bath toys.  He would occasionally sit next to Gee or me on the couch but, just like with playing with his toys, that never lasted long before he was up and trying to get into something else that he should not be in.

I don't remember what was happening in this first photo but he sure does look like one of us told him "no" to something he was trying to do but I don't think that was the case.  This was the first photo I shot of the night so it could be that he was just trying to figure out what was going on since nobody else was at our house...  no Lukey, no Kenzie, no mommy, no daddy, no Ellie, no Nan, no Pop...  but really, I have no idea what prompted this sort of disappointed look on his face...

For some reason, he kept going back to one of our lamps and trying to pull it down to the floor.  I'm not sure what that was about but I have a feeling it was just his way of distracting us from his next move.  Or maybe it was just his way to getting attention.

For instance, we have a tray of smooth semi-polished rocks on the front edge of our fireplace to hold heat and he knows that one of us will jump up to keep him away from the fireplace whenever he goes for those rocks (which can be hot when the fireplace is going...  of course, we don't want him throwing rocks in the house either...  or eating them).  Even though he knows we'll yell at him and lunge toward him, he goes for these rocks anyway and sort of smirks each time.  So, it could just be about attracting attention.

Whatever the reason, he kept going back to this one lamp and trying to pull it down to the floor...

Pizza time!

He definitely enjoyed the pizza...  well...  he enjoyed it once he pulled off all the cheese (which is really strange for anyone in Liza's family).  Basically, he was eating pizza crust/dough and tomato sauce.  He liked it though.  Gee and I ate our pizza with the cheese as well as with some green peppers and pepperoni.  Oh yeah...  and we had some garlic knots too.

Gee and I were pretty well spent by the time mommy picked him up to head back home but it was nice spending some time with him, as always!
