Christmas with the Grandchildren

As expected, we had a great time with the kids and grandchildren here at our house for Christmas!

We celebrated on the day after Christmas Day this year.  We went back to our already established tradition of starting our day with breakfast once everyone arrived.  This year, however, it was a late breakfast.  We had an egg casserole with a French toast bread base, maple and brown sugar sausage links, bacon, and cinnamon buns.  I didn't get much food and, actually, I didn't get a single cinnamon bun but what I had was very good.  For the most part, all the food was eaten so it must have been good.

In this blog entry, I included photos from this fun day and I closed this blog entry with a video which does a better job at showing some excited grandchildren.

The house was quiet earlier in the morning before everyone arrived as Gee and I filled the living room with presents...  stacks and stacks of presents...

The stacks of presents were even climbing up the walls like in a Dr Seuss illustration...

The Christmas tree now had Christmas cards, gift cards and small presents tucked within it's branches...

Gee spent some time creating some Santa hats made from fresh strawberries and marshmallows...

The grandchildren began to arrive and the house becomes filled with the sounds of high-pitched giggling and excited screaming...  and it wasn't even Papa this time!

It is time for breakfast so we can get to opening the stacks of gifts...

I had some O scale trains on the mantle as I do every Christmas but, this year, I decided to have power running to these trains.  Lukey spent a little time running a New York Central passenger train with a big Hudson steam locomotive as well as a smaller trolley on a different track...

Ellie is trying to contain her excitement as she semi-patiently awaits her presents...

Ace and daddy...

Now it is time for the wrapping paper to fly as it is torn from gifts...

Kenzie is a bit excited about a photo book consisting of photos of her figure skating and a photo shoot we did back a while ago...

Lukey is always happy with some train stuff each Christmas.  This year, he received two grade crossing tracks to add to his growing railroad at home...

Even the littlest one, Ace, was excited to be opening new toys this Christmas....

Gee almost forgot about some earrings she had stuffed in the Christmas tree that were for Miss Mackenzie but she remembered before we finished with gifts...

Liza and John received two portraits of the kids...  one portrait of Lukey and Kenzie together...  the other with Ace on the sailboat...  I didn't have a photo of all three of them together that was worthy of printing big so I opted to have two large format prints done mounted on wood.   Here is the one of Lukey and Kenzie that I shot while doing a late day photo shoot with them...

In this one below, you can see the two large format portraits side-by-side.

I had a hard time finding just the right two photos to blow up into a large format.  If they were to be displayed together, there needed to be some commonality in the two portraits so that they looked like they belonged together.  These two portraits both feature white and yellow prominently.  They also show all three heads being close to the same size.  These portraits are mounted on wood with a beveled black edge.

I'm really happy with how these portraits came out when printed as high-quality large format prints.  This is a high quality product!

These next few photos of Gee and me were shot by Lukey...  great job, Lukey!

Somehow, I didn't get a photo of Kenzie's new camera.  She had asked for one of those cheap Fuji Instax cameras that looks like a large pale hunk of melted plastic that more resembles a deformed Easter egg.  Instead, if she wanted to get into instant film photography, I knew the perfect camera for her.  Fuji also makes a hybrid digital/instant film camera.  The camera shoots digital photos that are saved to a memory card.  She can also apply different effects with each shot by rotating the dial around the lens.  If she likes the image, she has the option of cranking the film lever to print the image to Fuji Instax film.  This hybrid digital/film camera allows her to avoid printing bad photos.  She gets to choose which images to print which saves on the cost of film.  This is a really nice little camera.

Since I missed getting a shot of Kenzie's gift, here is the product image by Fuji...

Although I didn't get a photo of Kenzie's gift, I did get a chance to shoot a photo of one of Kenzie's Instax prints.  She shot a photo of Gee...  nice portrait, Kenzie!

I'll close this blog entry with a video of our day.  We all had a great time and, so far, I believe everyone is still healthy after congregating in our small home which is great news!  We'd all really like to avoid the virus this time around...
