Halloween and Exhausted Grandchildren

As one might expect, according to Liza, the kids awoke on Halloween morning and wanted to jump right into their costumes and all the Halloween festivities. Needless to say, by the time evening had arrived and time for 'trick or treating' with the rest of the little ghosts and ghouls in our neck of the woods, the kids were having difficulty keeping their eyes open... actually, they were even having difficulty holding their heads up!

Liza and the kids arrived at our house at 5pm to get ready for their night of festivities in downtown Waterbury... asleep, groggy and even a bit cranky (which I should mention that Sheila and I rarely see!). They had fallen asleep in the car on their way to our house and now needed to catch a second wind.

Little by little, costumes were put together again and put on the kids. Makeup was applied... well, re-applied... they had been wearing makeup all day but most of it was smeared under eyes and rubbed off... onto their couch as well as clothing and other furnishings at home.

Batman and the Bunny slowly came alive again... especially after consuming a little bit of caffeine in the form of Halloween candy. Being poked in the face while having one's face drawn on to add whiskers and a mask makes it hard to continue to sleep too. By the time their costumes were once again complete, they were awake... albeit still easily frustrated. It would clearly be a long night for Liza.

Before they left for the festivities downtown, they went outside and came to our front door for some 'trick or treat' practice... and got the first candy of the night dropped into their bags. Then they were in the car and headed toward a mass gathering of children in costumes. We had heard that the homes downtown were inundated with more than 800 'trick or treaters' at each home this year. In our neck of the woods, we had just four.

While the kids were visiting us and getting ready for their night, I managed to get a few photos of them preparing for their Halloween night. I added a few of the best below...

Now I need to go hide all the Christmas presents Gee and I bought last night before the kids arrive from daycare...

...now...  where did that candy go? I could use a few pieces before lunch...
