Another Snowy Morning

Snow lightly falling and covering my sailboat.

It looks like I'll be indoors again today since it is snowing out there again. One of these days I'll be able to pull my tools outside to get some carpentry done! I also need to get the sailboat and kayaks ready for our journey to the lake house in a few weeks.

Today, since it is cold and snowy, I'll be looking for things to keep me occupied indoors... which should be easy... 

My desktop computer started whistling again late last night and fixing this is a project I've been putting off for about six months. The whistling comes and goes and gets annoyingly loud. In fact, it gets so loud that it is even tough to hide the whistling by playing music. 

I'm fairly sure I've isolated the problem to my power supply. My plan is to order a power supply this morning... and, while I'm ordering parts needed for my computer, I'll also order a graphics processing unit. 

I'm taking a course in videography and my computer constantly bogs down to uselessness whenever I attempt to edit any HD video. To say this is frustrating is an understatement. I'll remedy this HD video problem by installing a Quadro Graphics Processor with 2gb's of dedicated video RAM. My computer already has 16gb's of RAM but I only have the usual factory integrated graphics... which is useless for HD video editing, obviously.

In order to install this Graphics Processing Unit upgrade, I'll need the upgraded power supply that I need to replace anyway. These two fairly easy upgrades should solve my video editing woes and stop that annoying whistling sound!

Now... if it would stop snowing this spring, perhaps we could more easily move into getting ready for our very short summer season... 



UPDATE:  I've ordered the new power supply and GPU from Amazon... and I have downloaded the new graphics driver so it is now ready to be installed. I also checked my computer supplies for the cables necessary to connect my monitor to this new GPU and found two cables that will work.  I'm now good to go and just waiting on the new parts to arrive!
