The Disappearing Antique Boat Show

Every year we always look forward to a few different annual events. The annual Lake Champlain Antique Boat Show has always been one of these annual events and it has always been a great time in the past. The show was yesterday and, since it has been raining almost everyday here in Vermont, we were very fortunate to have a beautiful sunny day!

I was feeling "fair" (which is better than I've felt in the past week) so I packed up a camera, a couple of lenses and a bag full of medications and we headed to Burlington in anticipation of viewing a fleet of antique boats on beautiful Lake Champlain with the rugged Adirondack Mountains looming in the background.

It was a beautiful day for walking around Burlington. The sky was clear. The sun was shining but it was still quite comfortable with temperatures in the 70s. Since I don't do well in hot climates, this was my kind of weather!

Our walk toward the waterfront was very nice and a much needed break from recovering on our couch and in bed. Although my health was still only fair, at best, it felt great to be out and about and on our way to view some beautiful antique boats.

On this day, there were all sorts of other events happening at the waterfront so the waterfront was looking a bit cluttered. I immediately noticed that some of the events took up space that was once occupied by antique boats in previous boat shows. We continued on to the waterfront and the boathouse in search of some antique boats.

As we approached the boathouse the crowd grew significantly. We worked our way through the crowd (which was waiting for a cruise on the lake) and entered the boathouse. When we emerged on the dock-side of the boathouse there was no crowd at all which was nice for viewing boats. Unfortunately, there weren't many boats either.

It took us only about five minutes to view all the boats docked here. Then we made our way to the one other dock which was part of this "show".

Unfortunately, there were very few boats docked at this second dock. There were some beautiful boats here and there but we viewed the entire boat show in less than fifteen minutes and this included time to walk from one dock to the second dock. I was left feeling quite disappointed.

On the positive side, it was nice to get out of the house and to walk around for a bit. We definitely enjoyed that. As always, it was nice sharing some time with Sheila too!

After our short time at the boathouse and wandering around the docks, we headed up the hill toward Church Street. We walked around Burlington and Church Street for a little while enjoying the beautiful day and being outside for a change.

I have to say, however, that the future for this antique boat show is not looking too bright. Perhaps we might need to start traveling to find a better antique boat show...
