Lake Groton to Woodsville
Although the lake house is fairly close to our home (only an hour away), it is still a bit isolated. Being isolated means that we must travel over to New Hampshire to do our food shopping. This is only a half hour away but it is still quite different than our usual five minutes to the market from our home in Waterbury so, whenever we are at the lake house, we plan a trip to Woodsville, NH before and after every weekend so we can refill our pantry and refrigerator.
Woodsville is a nice little town so we actually enjoy making this food run twice a week. Plus, the prices in Woodsville are only 50-60% of the prices in Waterbury where we usually shop and the quality of the produce is far better in Woodsville! So we actually enjoy this little excursion from the lake house.
Here is a short two minute video of the kids in the back seat of the car on the way to Woodsville... it is abundantly clear that they really do enjoy this trip to Woodsville... no fighting (okay... there is a little bickering but no fighting), only singing...
We've been saying for years that we want to stop at an old caboose that is sitting in downtown Woodsville but we never seemed to get around to it. Naturally, we always felt it would be a great place to bring the grandkids since it is a life-sized train, after all. This summer we finally set aside some extra time to surprise the kids with a stop at this old caboose!
As we pulled up to the caboose, Lukey was excited and ready to bolt out the car door before we even came to a stop... Kenzie, not so much. At first, she actually refused to get out of the car. "Hmmm... was it an attention thing and this was something more associated with Lukey's interests? Was she hungry and just wanted to get back to the lake house?" Regardless, Lukey and I jumped out of the car and walked the few feet to the caboose while Gee stayed in the car with Kenzie.
The moment that Kenzie saw that Lukey could get up onto the caboose, she changed her mind. Plus, I think Lukey appeared to be having too much fun while Kenzie was just sulking in the hot car. She quickly changed her mind and Gee and Kenzie joined us at the caboose...
Lukey is trying to disengage the brake so the caboose will begin to roll... I don't think he was aware that the caboose had no wheels...
Here comes Kenzie... apparently Lukey was having too much fun on his own and he was actually on the caboose and not just looking at it from a distance...
I think Lukey and Kenzie are trying to get Rover, our imaginary lake house dog, to run faster and jump up on the moving train with them...
I'm confident that Kenzie was glad she got to play on the caboose. I know Lukey was happy about it!
That was a nice food run!
