A Small Project Completed
I managed to finish building that doorway trellis at our backdoor that I started designing and building a few days ago. This little last minute project was built using mostly scrap lumber that was taking up space in our shed but I have to say that all this scrap lumber looks better at our backdoor cut and assembled this way!
Of course, this trellis could use some plant growth but that won't happen this time of year. Regardless, it is a nice addition to our home.
Little by little, over the past few months, I've been adding a few architectural details around the house. These little details make a tremendous difference in the appearance of the house and I'm liking the way things are coming together.
It is almost time to start decorating the outside of the house for Christmas. I was hoping to get a jump on that before the arrival of snow but it looks as though we'll be awaking to snow tomorrow morning. I'm sure we'll still get a few more days of unseasonably warm weather before winter arrives as the winter season approaches. I actually plan to cut the lawn one more time... that is how confident I am that we'll get some warm weather again. After all, our autumn was consistently unseasonably warm so I don't feel that the cold weather will stick around consistently at this point.
I had to do most of the painting for this project indoors since yesterday the temperature dropped well below the required temperature for paint to dry effectively. The last parts to paint were all those slats for the top of the trellis arbor. In total, painting these slats took me two and a half hours over the past two days. The paint dried quickly so I was able head outdoors to install all these slats before lunchtime today.
Here is a photo of all these slats... stacked and drying in our hallway...
When I stepped up on my little fold-up step ladder so I could install all these freshly painted slats, I instantly realized that this ladder wasn't nearly tall enough for me to reach over the top of this trellis. I pulled out my extension ladder and tackled this project from the roof instead...
Tomorrow, I suppose I should clean up some of the mess I created in the house. Or maybe I'll ice my spine for a day! I'm walking around like a 90 year old man after this project. As much as my spine can use some recovery time, I really need to clean up all the tools and stuff.
The next little project to tackle is to build a new larger kitchen table to use on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas...
