An Evening in the Backyard

After spending much of the day shopping and going out for a late lunch, we came home and spent the evening in the backyard with Lukey, Kenzie and Pop.  Pop joined us just as we were starting on dinner.

Earlier in the evening, we played quite a few games of Giant Jenga.  I had already written about that here.  There wasn't a whole lot of down time spent sitting around the fire.  We did do some of that but it was really only between games.  This was our first evening out in the backyard for the season so there were a lot of games we wanted to play.  It was fun but it definitely wore me out!  (Being so busy in the backyard also caused me to forget a dose of medications.  This caused significant problems for my health the following morning.)

Although this photo, below, appears as though this is a perfect example of poorly applied makeup, this is really the result of eating cherries...

Before we headed out to do our shopping in the morning, I prepared dinner...  Shish-Ka-Bob.  When we were ready for dinner, all I had to do was start the grill, let it warm up, and then put the skewers on the grill.  We also had some Na'an bread warmed on the grill.  That was a delicious dinner!

Naturally, the kids and Gee did some S'mores over the fire...

Later in the evening, we played Dominoes.  We recently purchased a Double Six set of dominoes and I just finished building the perfect table for playing Dominoes (this table also came in handy for dinner!) so we played Dominoes into the night.  There are very many variations of Dominoes but we chose to play a rather simple version.  We didn't count points while we were playing each domino but we did count points from leftover dominoes after someone won a round.  The appropriate number of chips were then given to the winner of that round.

It looks like Lukey and Kenzie are bored playing dominoes but I think they were just deep in thought thinking about their next move.  They really had a good time playing and I'm sure they'll jump at the chance to play again when they are at our house again.

We had a great time with Lukey, Kenzie and Pop on this evening and we look forward to the next evening spent in the backyard!
