Some Detail Painting

I've stayed indoors for the most part today.  We've had passing thunderstorms throughout the day today and the heat and humidity is high.  It is still bearable out there but I have no desire to be struck by lightning so I've stayed indoors and done some detail painting.

(NOTE:  Later in the day, some severe thunderstorms passed through and the temperature dropped more than 20 degrees and stayed down around 70 degrees for the rest of the day!)

For this model railroading project, I am really wanting a nice looking cab so I'm spending a little extra time on various parts of the cab.  Today, I worked a bit on detailing the backhead in the cab with paints and some extra parts.  Now that I see this photo, I can see that I still have a bit more work to do with detail brushes but this is looking great so far...

I'm installing a new bell and a new whistle on this locomotive.  Here is the bell, below.  This bell came to me as an unpainted kit so I needed to paint each part and then assemble it.  I still have a bit of weathering to do but this is looking good too.  I'll probably weather this bell after I install it on the locomotive while I am weathering the whole locomotive.

These figures, below, came already painted but there were various things I didn't like so I did a little cutting and I repainted various articles of clothing.  Some of the original colors were too bright and odd shades of color so I definitely wanted to change that to more subdued color.  After some painting today, the only thing I plan to add to these figures is some dirt and smudges...  ie, knees, thighs, hands, gloves...

I had purchased some scale tools too.  These tools were cast tools and arrived unpainted in bare metal so I spent some time today painting these tools.  I do still have some highlights and weathering to add but I'm liking these too....   hmmm...  I might try to rough up some of the bristles on the broom.  That bottom edge is too sharp.  The bristles should lose some color and be a bit dirtier near the bottom too.  That's an easy fix though.

One of the major advantages to shooting photos of my work is that the photos make it easier for me to actually "see" more closely.  Now I have a better idea of where my detail painting could use more detail and more refinement.

This locomotive kitbash and re-powering with new electronics is coming along nicely!
