Kenzie's Aquarium Photos

As many of you who regularly read this blog already probably already read, we traveled by train to Ohio with two of our grandchildren at the beginning of this past summer.  Throughout this cross-country Amtrak journey to Ohio, Kenzie was using one of my cameras and two lenses.  She was already familiar with my little old Sony a6000 camera so that is the one I let her use on this long trip.

When we went to the aquarium, she was using a wide zoom lens that has a wide aperture on this camera.  As I mentioned in a previous blog entry about this aquarium, capturing photos at an aquarium can be difficult because they are always so dark.  What made things even more difficult on this visit was that the aquarium was crowded at full capacity making it difficult to get a clear shot but Kenzie did a great job finding interesting subjects that were nicely illuminated by light in this dark aquarium.

Until we arrived at the aquarium (by foot, over one of the bridges from Cincinnati), we didn't realize that we needed to reserve a time slot for our visit so we ended up having a few hours to kill.  We walked around in the triple digit heat and humidity for a little while (until we were about to pass out) but then sat on a covered restaurant patio while ordering some cold drinks and appetizers.  We still had another hour and a half to kill after eating so we sat in the shade behind the aquarium watching the Ohio River.

Kenzie captured a nice photo of our view of Cincinnati from behind the aquarium...

While we were waiting for our time slot, we killed some time in the shade at a couple of picnic tables next to the aquarium facing the Ohio River.  Kenzie captured a photo of Gee...

Lukey occupied most of this down time by capturing photos of passing boats on the Ohio River.  I'm there on the other side of Lukey just trying to stay out of the hot sun...

We couldn't wait to get out of the heat and humidity and into the far cooler aquarium...

I like the way Kenzie captured a wider view of this shark in this scene.  I like that we can see that the sharks were swimming among a lot of smaller fish.  The aquarium keeps the sharks very well fed so they don't go after any of the smaller fish.  Kenzie did a great job at capturing the shark swimming among all these little fish.  I really like these two photos!

The penguins were really difficult to capture because they were darting as fast as they could across the entire length of this very large tank.  When they would stop, the younger kids in the big crowd would start running across along the front of the tank which would prompt the penguins to start chasing them and then continue darting across the front of the tank right in front of us.

In this photo, below, Kenzie captured a penguin after it jumped out of the water and is now entering the water again...  great timing!

Kenzie did a great job with this little old Sony a6000 camera!
