"There's A Head On The Wall!!!"

After cutting Christmas trees for the family, we headed to our annual Christmas lunch. This year, Sheila and I chose to go to 'The Whip' in 'The Green Mountain Inn' for lunch. We knew this would be a lunch everyone would enjoy! (And, everyone did!  More about that in another blog entry though.)

While we were waiting for the waitstaff to get our table ready for our group, Lukey and I were wandering around the halls of 'The Green Mountain Inn' looking at all the historic photos on the walls. Lukey loves trains and there are a lot of photos of trains and streetcars from more than a hundred years ago.

I was pointing out old buildings in old photos and telling Lukey which building it is while pointing out the windows. Some of these old buildings were related to trains... and this definitely interested Lukey.

There is an old photo of the same building where Lukey and Kenzie currently live... I pointed to the old building... no other buildings surrounding it... hardly even any trees... and Lukey seemed to recognize it, but... there was a tremendous train trestle bridge in the foreground and this is what had Lukey's attention.

I explained that train tracks used to run from the Waterbury train station (a place Lukey is very familiar with) all the way up to where we were currently standing to bring people to the hotel in Stowe. These tracks went right by his house over a loonnnnngggg wooden trestle bridge that is now a road wandering deep into a gulley called "the hollow". He stood there with wide eyes and his mouth agape.

I continued going from photo to photo, explaining where the photo was shot and what it is/was. Unbeknownst to me, however, Lukey had wandered off about five feet away into an alcove...  I noticed he had wandered a little ahead of me when I heard him scream, "PAPA!!! There's a HEAD ON THE WALL!!!"

Now, I've been to this inn and restaurant many times and I didn't remember any heads being on the walls so I was wondering, "What the heck is he talking about?"  I immediately scooted over to where he was in this alcove wondering if maybe he stumbled across a decapitated head after some gruesome murder... as I turned into that alcove, I immediately saw this "head" he was now pointing at with a look of horror on his face and I started laughing...
Two eyes, a big nose, a mouth, on a long head...

As I was laughing, I called over to Nan to join us so she could explain what this contraption that looks like a head really is. We both showed Lukey how to use this funny looking cellphone...

I don't think I'll ever forget hearing him scream, "PAPA!!!  There's a HEAD ON THE WALL!!!"
