Springtime Walk

We went for a nice Springtime walk with the grandchildren the other day. The weather was relatively warm, clear and sunny. I think the temperature was in the 40's for a change which is much more tolerable than the freezing daytime temperatures and sub-zero nighttime temperatures we've been experiencing for many months now. With the sun shining and the temperatures well above freezing, Sheila decided it was a good afternoon for a short walk around the block with the kids.

The ground, for the most part, is still covered in a foot or two of snow and we still have snowbanks up to four feet tall so there is still a lot of snow to be melted out there. Unfortunately, all this snow makes for a lot of puddles and deep mud as the ground continues to thaw.

Much of our walking route around the block was mostly dry, however, there were some areas with water-filled pot holes and streams of water run-off. Needless to say, the kids were attracted to these wet areas like ants to sugar which made for some wet toddlers.

Every now and then during our walk, I would try to break away from the kids to get some photos of them walking with Grammy... well, the moment I tried to break away, the kids would come running after me. Getting some photos of them during the walk was a bit difficult!

When we arrived back at the house, the kids were greeted by one of our two resident cats. This particular cat is barely out of the kitten stage and still enjoys playing with kids. Our other resident cat tends to follow me around. Even when I'm in the house, the cat sits quietly outside whatever room I am in at the moment. If I am outdoors, this cat shadows me wherever I go. When I am feeling my worst and couch-bound, the cat just sits right outside the closest door or window watching.

After playing with the kitten for a little while, the kids explored the kayaks and sailboat in the backyard. All four boats are still mostly buried in snow but the kids are just as attracted to the boats as they are puddles.

When we finally managed to get the kids back indoors, all the muddy wet clothes and boots went into the washing machine. They put on some dry clothes and played with their toys (mostly the trains) in the living room until dinner.

As always, it was another nice Sunday with the grandchildren and we look forward to their next visit...
